Joe Farrell is an Irish painter, photographer and documentary director.
His work is in the Irish State Art Collection and in private and institutional collections in Ireland, Canada and UK.
He has directed broadcast documentaries and factual programmes in more than 20 countries including Ethiopia, DR Congo, Kenya, Sth. Africa, Korea and Jamaica
These recent paintings address the fragile, fugitive qualities of memory by recapturing and distilling encounters, events and places experienced in his travels over several decades.
The images are built up from multiple frames of memory attenuated by time and distance. Shifting timescales, viewpoints and perspectives coalesce until a definitive image emerges.
